Whitman Display

Whitman Display is a version of my original Whitman typeface adapted for a more refined appearance in titles and headlines (approx. 48 pt and larger).

I confess that I was somewhat surprised that the initial requests for display fonts came from the newspaper arena. The original commissions, for the Minneapolis Star Tribune and Tacoma News Tribune, were just two weights in three different widths for setting headlines. I’m certain that I would not have envisioned the narrower versions otherwise. But I have been pleasantly surprised at how well the Whitman design adapted to this purpose.

The Whitman Display family has now been expanded to 28 styles. There are seven weights (Light, Regular, Semibold, Bold, Extra Bold, Black, and Extra Black) and three widths (Normal, Condensed, and Compressed), plus Italics in the normal width.

The Whitman Display fonts are now available for retail license from The Font Bureau.
