Whitman combines the qualities and character of classic American book types with a contemporary, digital aesthetic. The design was largely inspired by the work of W.A. Dwiggins, a book designer who also created a number of successful text typefaces in the first half of the 20th century. The Whitman text family now comprises seven styles. There are three weights — Roman, Semibold, and Bold, each with corresponding Italics, plus Small Caps to accompany the regular weight. The Whitman fonts are available for retail license from The Font Bureau. Download the Whitman PDF Specimen (112K). |
